The Johnson City Police Department arrested a Bristol, Virginia woman, after they say she worked as a caregviver for a local home care business and stole thousands of dollars from an elderly client.
Police arrested Ashley N. Brooks, 23, after they say an investigation revealed that she wrote four separate checks out of a 73-year-old woman's checking account. The victim lost $80,600 as a result.
As a caregiver, Brooks worked at the woman's home, which police say gave her access to the victim's checkbook.
Police charged Brooks with one count of theft over $60,000, two counts of theft over $1,000 and one count of theft under $500.
Brooks is being held at the Washington County, Tennessee Detention Center on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow morning.
