Johnson City, Tenn. -- The United States celebrated its independence 233 years ago Saturday.
That anniversary goes hand in hand with displays in the sky, and most fireworks fans view that modern tradition in Texas terms -- the bigger, the better.
Opie Hurd is one of those fans. Hurd and his "herd" migrate from Lee County Va. To Johnson City for the fireworks each year.
"From where we live there really isn't much {in the way of fireworks} -- same every year," Hurd said.
The Johnson City show lasted roughly 20 minutes. It was choreographed and synchronized to music.
Pyrotechnic Jim Edwards said it included 5,000 shots -- 1,000 of them saved for the final 60 seconds.
