Johnson City, Tenn. -- The day before the fourth of July, and as people prepare for their picnics and fire works shows, it's the perfect time of the year to check the status of your american flag.
The Tennessee Flag Company in downtown Johnson City is the only flag manufacturer in the region, allowing them to do quite well during these slow economic times.
Most of the company's business comes from special orders, that go out nationally and internationally.
They even make flags for trucks carrying wide loads, and traffic signs for canada.
Their factory and retail store has been a staple in downtown for years. They rely on solid community support to keep their business going.
"We have customer relationships that we've built for 20 years that are still going strong," says general manager, John Grindstaff, "that's what helps us weather the storms."
The Tennessee Flag Company donated new flags to the Erwin Veteran's Memorial after vandals destroyed theirs.
Grindstaff says they feel a strong connection to veterans, since they often come in to buy flags for their military units.
