Erwin Veterans Park Vandalized Overnight

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Last night, vandals targeted the Unicoi County Veterans Memorial Park and Gentry Stadium.

Both are located in the community surrounding Academy Street and South Elm Avenue.

During the vandalism spree, those responsible took down all the flags at the veterans park, put them in a trash can, and burned them.

Police also found graffiti on a military tank.

Investigators said the damage totaled about one thousand dollars, and the scene left them outraged.

The vandalism spree left many in the Erwin community both shocked and outraged.

Once police spotted the damage, some volunteers helped city crews clean up the mess and began the search for more flags to raise in time for the July 4th holiday.

Tennessee Flag Company in Johnson City stepped up to help out and donated six flags to the memorial. Those flags are flying tonight.
