Many People Oppose FOCA

A recent article published on Jan. 23 reported on the concerns of health care workers about pending legislation on the abortion issue. Their concern was two fold – that if the bill HR 1964, also known as the Freedom of Choice Act, was passed it would infringe upon their belief against performing abortions and also that federal funds would be cut off if they refused to perform abortions. Present at the meeting was Bill Haywood, chairman of the organization, Fighting for Life in the 9th. The purpose of this grassroots organization is to put pressure upon Representative Rick Boucher, who is a co-sponsor of the bill, to drop his sponsorship of this damaging bill and to vote no against such bill if it comes to a vote. If the Freedom of Choice Act becomes law it will undo much of the pro-life legislation that has saved thousands of babies who would have been aborted.

Another point of issue is that President Obama pledged before the election that he would sign the FOC act. He also could issue an order that would legalize the FOC without going through Congress. This would be disastrous to the right-to-life movement. As concerned citizens we need to let Mr. Boucher and others know of our opposition to this bill.
