If you are an Eastman Credit Union debit or credit card customer, some of your personal information may have been comprised during a security breach.
ECU received notification this week from Visa that due to a large security breach that occurred at Heartland Payment Systems, several ECU member debit and credit cards have been compromised.
Information such as cardholder names, card numbers and expiration dates were part of the security breach. According to ECU officials, customers’ PIN information was not compromised.
Heartland Payment Systems provides debit and credit card processing services for nearly 175,000 businesses nationwide but they are not a vendor of ECU. They process credit and debit card transactions for merchants that many people do business with such as gas stations and grocery stores.
“Our data has not been compromised,” says Gary Tucker, Media Relations for ECU. “There was no security breach at Eastman Credit Union.”
Eastman Credit Union officials say that customers who are affected by this security breach will be contacted.
Card members whose information was leaked by Heartland Payment Systems will not be held financially responsible, said Tucker. They will be contacted and they will be issued new cards.
According to Heartland Payment Systems Chairman and CEO Robert Carr, the company is working with the Secret Service and the U.S. Department of Justice to identify how the breach occurred and prevent future incidents.
They also advise customers to review their account history and report any unauthorized activity to card’s issuer.
