BRISTOL, Va. – Six people were arrested Wednesday after authorities seized more than 1.5 pounds of methamphetamine and $3,900 cash from a residence on Beaver Drive, according to a written statement released Friday by the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Virginia’s Western District.
Alison Cary Layman, 28, of Bristol, Va.; Kristen Nicole Gray, 29, Larry Brandon Shelley, 33, and Nicholas Duane Thompson, 29, all of Bristol, Tenn.; and Arturo Quezada Victoriano, 30, and Andres Galvan Calderas, 32, both of Woodlawn, Va., were arrested after federal agents and the Virginia State Police executed a search warrant at Layman’s home, according to court documents.
The arrests mark the culmination of an investigation that began in December when a confidential source told authorities he or she had been buying methamphetamine from Layman at her home for the past “four or five months,” according to the documents.
Layman, Calderas and Victoriano were at the residence when authorities searched it Jan. 7, court papers show.
While the warrant was being executed, Shelly arrived at the house and was subsequently arrested. Also at the same time, Gray and Thompson were stopped at a nearby gas station and arrested after agreeing to a vehicle search. In the car, police found, in a yellow pouch labeled dope, an ounce of suspected methamphetamine.
Court records show that police found an identical pouch labeled dope in Layman’s residence.
Police say 2 confess to local gun thefts
BRISTOL, Tenn. – Two Bristol men were charged with burglary and theft Friday after police said they confessed to stealing several guns from two homes Wednesday and Thursday.
Christopher Taylor, 19, of Bristol, Va., and Jordan Combs, 19, of Bristol, Tenn., were both charged with one count of aggravated burglary and two counts of theft under $500.
Police said a total of 10 guns were stolen from two different homes Jan. 7 and Jan. 8, according to a written statement released by the Bristol Tennessee Police Department.
The first burglary occurred at a home near Anderson Street School, where a resident reported someone had entered their home and taken four guns, according to the statement.
The next day, a resident of the Sunnybrook subdivision reported that someone had come into their home and taken six guns.
The statement said a list of suspects was developed, and at 6 p.m. Thursday, police stopped one of them after identifying their car on Volunteer Parkway. The person who was stopped provided information that led police to Combs and Taylor, the statement said. All guns were recovered. The suspects are being held at the Blountville Jail.
Sullivan man charged with attempted murder
Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies have charged a man following an altercation that began Monday when he discovered old pictures of his wife and an ex-boyfriend.
A woman who lives in the 300 block of Hidden Valley Road, near Kingsport, said she was punched in the face, kicked to the floor and threatened with death, all while holding a 4-month-old child, deputies report. The woman also is pregnant, deputies said.
Her husband, Gregory Slemp, 36, was charged Thursday with two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
The wife told deputies that the attack continued after she tried to flee the house with the child. Because she is pregnant, doctors could not take X-rays of her head and chest injuries, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news statement.
Slemp is being held without bond at the Sullivan County Correction Facility.
