Flooding Causes Damage and Blocks Roadways

Some roads in the Tri-Cities are closed this morning, and flooding continues to cause problems across the region.

Update at 8:12 a.m.:
About 20 roads were closed in Hawkins County, Tennessee as of 2 a.m. Hammond Avenue in Mount Carmel has re-opened.

Hawkins County 9-1-1 reports several roads still closed or partially blocked because of flooding.

* Burem Road (Between Butcher's Valley and Tarpin)
* Highway 70 South

Some roadways are causing headaches for area drivers and residents this morning.

In Washington County, Tenn. dispatchers say that the 2700 block of Oakland Road, off Opie Arnold road is shut down this morning due to flooding. The roadway will be closed to further notice.

Several roads are closed in Washington County, Va. as well do to flooding. These include:
* Appaloosa Road
* North Fork River Road
*Old Mill Road
* Old Salt Works Road
*Wyndale Road (tree down in roadway)

And, in Carter County the heavy rains have caused flooding in the following areas:
*the Stoney Creek area has some minor flooding, including Peters Hollow Road
*Dry Creek Road in the Laurels area is flooded
*Swimming Pool Road in the Hampton area ( minor flooding)

The Doe River has also risen above flood levels.

In Hawkins County, Tenn. dispatchers are advising that Highway 70 and Burem Road are closed due to flooding.

In Scott County, Va., officials report that some secondary roads have water and debris but that all main roads are open and driveable. Schools in Scott Co. are closed today.

In Greene County, Tenn. water is causing a few secondary roads to be impassable. All major roads and highways in Greene Co., however, are clear at the moment. Schools there are closed today as well.
