An off-duty Smyth County, Virginia police officer was killed in a car crash over the weekend.
Deputy Christopher Paschal, 37, with the Smyth County Sheriff's Office was driving north-bound in Interstate 81 in the morning on Jan. 2 when he lost control of his Mitsubishi SUV.
Paschal ran off the road to the right and turned the vehicle over twice. The accident was likely weather-related and due to icy roads, according to officials. However, the accident is still under investigation by the Virginia State Police.
Paschal was transported to Bristol for medical treatment where he passed away on Sunday. His wife and daughter, who were also in the SUV, were uninjured.
