Educators all over the Tri-Cities are facing some tough decisions. Talks will soon begin on the 2009-2010 budget in Johnson City, Tennessee. Dr. Richard Bales says there are many items that could be cut, but he hopes that teachers and employees won’t be on the list.
"I think a classroom teacher is ultimately the most important thing in a student’s life," said Dr. Richard Bales, Johnson City Director of Schools.
He said it's too early to know what may be cut from the upcoming budget. The 2008-2009 budget for Johnson City Schools was between 58 to 60 million dollars. Bales doesn't anticipate that changing much for next year. He did say that stimulus money and completion of the state budget may have an impact.
Whether it's cutting school programs or classes or even jobs, Dr. Bales and the Johnson City School Board have some tough decisions to make in the near future.
