Parents Do Their Part To Save Tri-Cities Schools From Being Closed

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Parents don't have it easy these days. They're worried about the economy and providing for their loved ones. Now, parents in Sullivan County, Tennessee have a new headache. School officials have proposed a plan that would close or re-zone several schools. The list includes Colonial Heights Middle School, Akard, Valley Pike, and Cedar Grove Elementary schools.
"Going to four different schools in four different years is just not acceptable," said Mark Hagy, parent.
According to Hagy, it's the kind of scenario that his daughter faces if Sullivan County Schools goes through with their plan to rezone and close schools. Hagy and other parents are doing what they can to make sure students can avoid any kind of drastic change to their education.
"Maybe they could put a grandfather clause in their to say that the children that are there now could go ahead and finish their time out, delay the proposal," said Hagy.
That proposal will rezone schools like Colonial Heights Middle School and close Akard, Valley Pike, and Cedar Grove Elementaries. Several meetings have been held at these and other schools during the past few months.
The Sullivan County School Board is expected to vote on the proposal to close or re-zone schools on March 2.
