Tanner Shivley from Kingsport, Tennessee is this week's student of the week. The fifth grader at Sullivan Elementary in Kingsport, Tennessee is a straight “A” student and has been on the honor roll six times during the school year. Tanner’s favorite subjects are science and reading. The 11 year-old understands the importance of getting good grades.
"I've found that I can get scholarships into colleges on getting good grades, athletics, that sort of thing so it's really important to get a good grade. Tanner said.
Tanner wants to be a major league baseball player or a firefighter. He's also considering a career as a crime scene investigator.
When Tanner is not busy studying for a test he’s often found volunteering in his community. He helps out at the Salvation Army during the holidays.
"Since I get something from the community from time to time I think that I should give back," Tanner said.
He's already making plans to join Big Brothers and Big Sisters when he turns 16.
