In celebration of National Sleep Awareness Week, The Sleep Disorders Lab at Sycamore Shoals Hospital (SSH) will host an open house on March 6 from noon to 6 p.m. The Sleep Disorders Lab at SSH is a state-of-the-art facility equipped with some of the most advanced sleep diagnostic technology available. Board-certified sleep physician Dr. Charles Cole will be available for any sleep questions attendees to the open house may have.
Manufacturers of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines and masks (used to assist with some sleep disorders) such Respironics, ResMed, and Fisher and Paykel will also be available to demonstrate new equipment that is now available.
Even if a sleep disorder is not suspected, the public might also be interested in coming to see other demonstrations provided by local merchants. Leta’s Specialty Shop will demonstrate how to decorate a bedroom to make it a relaxing retreat. Leta Hale from Merle Norman Cosmetics will also be showing nighttime skin care. Cannon’s Fine Home Furnishings will show tips for purchasing the right mattress and will show new recliners for stress relief.
Luster Shell and Gail Tankersley are two local massage therapists who will be demonstrating chair massage, self-massage and partner massage techniques. Tankersley will also show some deep-breathing exercises for relaxation. The Franklin Health and Fitness Center will provide information about how exercise can help with a good night’s sleep.
Hourly door prizes will be drawn. Light refreshments will be provided.
The Sleep Disorders Lab at SSH is located at The Shoals Center, 404 Bemberg Road, Elizabethton.
