Kingsport hopes that when the Kingsport Center for Higher Education will make the downtown not only smarter, but prettier as well. The Kingsport Public Art Committee is requesting proposals for two art projects to help enhance the facility when it opens. The projects are funded by the City of Kingsport's Percent for Art Program, which allocates three quarters of one percent of the construction budget of the facility dedicated to art.

The 'Signature' or 'Gateway' project has a budget of $75,000. Bonnie MacDonald of the Kingsport Public Art Committee says this project "May actually one day, as the buildings develop around it, be an entrance into the whole academic village." The project will be located on the Market Street side of the facility. The "Community Art Project" has a budget of $20,000. An artist or team of artists will develop and facilitate community workshops, resulting in permanent artwork that will be displayed inside the Kingsport Higher Education Center.

To receive a copy of the full Request for Proposals, contact the City of Kingsport's Purchasing Department at 423-229-9419, or by email at crawfordS@ci.kingsport.tn.us
