BRISTOL, Tenn. – The State Street Farmer’s Market has received a grant from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture’s Farmers Market Promotion and Retail Grant program.
A Farmer’s Market cookbook will be produced with the grant funding.
The cookbook would highlight the farmers and gardeners of the region, the produce they raise and the way in which they prepared these fruits and vegetables for their family.
It will also feature recipes from local chefs who have participated in the "Chef at the Market" program, the customers of the market and will feature pictures from the market and candid shots of the farmers and patrons who have made the market a success.
The cookbook will also have helpful hints for canning or storing produce for the winter season, and a schedule of when produce should be arriving at the market, etc.
Choose your favorite recipe that includes fruits or vegetables you have purchased from the market or canning tips you have found successful. Include your name and city you live in and a phone number that will not be printed. You can even add a story to your recipe such as who passed it down or where it was found or how it was created.
Mail recipes to State Street Farmer’s Market, P.O. Box 3563, Bristol, TN 37625. Deadline for entries will be March 15. For more information, call (423) 764-1879.
