UPDATE 12/31/09:
According to Lt. Gregg with the Washington County Sheriff's Office, one of the guns stolen from an officer's vehicle this week would require the owner to be in possession of a special permit.
"The shotgun is a 'Short Barrelled Shotgun' which would require registration with the BATF to be legal for a private citizen," Gregg said.
Anyone caught with this weapon would be subject to Federal Charges for being in possession of a unregistered NFA weapon. It is a Class III weapon requiring the possessor to be in possession of a Class III tax stamp at all times or they are in violation of Federal Weapons Laws, according to Gregg.
