Chilhowie residents killed in Christmas night mobile home fire

Williams Funeral Home will arrange memorial services for Daniel and Sylvia Smith at a later date.

Chilhowie, Va. -- Family, friends, and neighbors are in mourning after a fatal mobile home fire at 39308 Schuler Mountain Road Saturday morning.

Washington County Va. Sheriff's Office received the emergency call at 12:14 a.m., and activated Damascus Fire Department, Damascus Rescue Squad, and the Glade Spring Fire Department.

When they arrived, the home was "fully engulfed."

Daniel Smith, 64, and his wife Sylvia Smith, 55, died in the fire, along with the couple's five beloved dogs.

"The cause of the blaze is undetermined at this time," Sheriff Fred Newman said in a press release.

The victims' bodies were transported to Roanoke for autopsies.

Williams Funeral Home in Chilhowie will arrange memorial services at a later date.
