Oda Renee Baker
A traffic stop in Hawkins County Sunday afternoon resulted in numerous charges for a Whitesburg, TN woman, after she tried to flee from the deputy who pulled her over. Around 3:30 Sunday afternoon, Hawkins County dispatch put out a call of a possible intoxicated driver on Highway 113 coming into Rogersville. Deputy Jeff Hilton got behind the vehicle, a gray Ford Focus, and observed it crossing the center line several times. Hilton then pulled the car over at the Highway 66 Plaza, and identified the driver as Oda Renee Baker, 36. Hilton's arrest report says Baker seemed anxious, unable to stand still for any period of time, and confused. Baker told the deputy she did not have her drivers' license with her. After checking with NCIC, the deputy found out that Baker's license had been revoked in October of this year for her third offense of DUI. Hilton noticed Baker had her ten year old son in the car with her, and asked Baker to exit the car. At that point, Baker shut her door, and sped off from the parking lot at a high rate of speed, running over his foot in the process. The report says Baker traveled south on Highway 66 at a very high rate of speed, refusing to stop. While negotiating a curve, Baker lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a culvert, hitting a tree and several large rocks. Baker's son was transported to Wellmont Hawkins County Hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life threatening. Oda Renee Baker was transported to the facility for treatment of minor injuries as well. She admitted to police that she had taken two Somas and done meth before the incident. Baker was arrested and charged with her 4th offense of DUI, driving on revoked license, felony evading arrest, child endangerment, and 2 counts of vehicular assault. She remains jailed on a $50,000 bond, scheduled to appear in court on December 22.
