Carter County Sheriff's officials said on Saturday evening that power outages across the county are widespread. The Red Cross is already out in full force to help families who need a warm place to stay. They've set up a shelter at the Truman Clark Annex and say the shelter is open to any families who live in the county.
The American Red Cross of Northeast Tennessee has opened shelters at the following locations: The civic Auditorium at 1550 Fort Henry Drive in Kingsport. Volunteer Ruritan at 5740 West Carter's Valley Road in MT. Carmel and the Health Department Annex at 403 East G Street in Elizabethon.
A Red Cross shelter is also open at Tri-Cities Baptist Church in Gray.
Unicoi County is opening an emergency shelter at First Baptist Church in Erwin. The Salvation Army is setting up in Erwin to provide hot meals to the shelters there.
Hawkins County officials say it may two to thee days until power is restored in some areas. The American Red Cross has a shelter at the National Guard Armory in Rogersville.
A shelter is now open in Johnson County at the Mountain City Elementary School.
Holston High School in Damascus, Virginia is now serving as a shelter for people who need to get out of the cold.
Scott County, Virginia officials have declard a state of emergency and have set up several shelters in the county. One in Duffield at Three Bells Baptist Church in Dungannon a shelter is set up Methodist Church Fellowship Hall another in Nickelsville at the First Bapist Chruch Fellowship Hall and another at Gate City Middle School.
