Three people were arrested in Kingsport after police say they dragged a Wal-Mart door greeter around the parking lot when he tried to stop them from stealing a television. Tuesday night at approximately 11:00 p.m., officers of the Kingsport Police Department responded to Wal-Mart, 3200 Fort Henry Drive, in reference to a shoplifter. Upon arrival they discovered that a white female had left the store with a large television valued at $448 with no receipt. The door greeter, Clarence Painter, attempted to stop the female as she entered a blue Saturn, which was parked waiting in the lot. The Saturn was occupied by two white males and as the female entered the rear seat with Painter still holding to the television, the car pulled off, dragging Painter across the parking lot. Painter eventually let go and fell to the pavement, after suffering numerous cuts and abrasions. After the Saturn fled the area, a BOLO (be on lookout) was issued to surrounding law enforcement agencies. A short time later the vehhicle was located by a Sullivan County Sheriff's Deputy in the area of Orebank Road. Painter’s glasses were located in the floorboard of this vehicle. David Chapman of Bristol was identified as the driver of the vehicle, and the passenger was identified as Travis Rose of Johnson City. Chapman and Rose were transported to the Kingsport Police Department where they were interviewed. The female was later located at her residence at Miller Village Apartments, and identified to be Shaina Harvey.
Chapman was charged with the offense of Felony Reckless endangerment and Theft Under $500. Rose was charged with the offense of Theft Under $500. Harvey was arrested and transported to the Kingsport City jail where she was confined for the offense of Reckless Endangerment and Theft Under $500.
