Woolard receives Milligan's highest honor: Fide et Amore award

Milligan College presented the distinguished Fide et Amore award, the college’s highest honor, to Carolyn Woolard at the Dec. 11 commencement ceremony held in Seeger Memorial Chapel.

The Fide et Amore award is given to individuals to recognize loving and faithful service to the college.

Woolard, associate professor, has taught at Milligan for 37 years. She began her career as a French professor, but in order to meet the demands of Milligan’s foreign language curriculum, she returned to school to receive the necessary credentials to teach Spanish. She currently teaches French and Spanish.

Dr. Pat Magness, professor of humanities at Milligan, was one of four people who nominated Woolard for the award. She praises Woolard’s devotion to her teaching career at Milligan and her ability to switch languages over a lunch hour as she juggles both French and Spanish classes.

“Every semester Carolyn has both a large number of students and a large number of course preparations,” Magness said. “In addition to her energetic teaching, she has worked to provide an international emphasis at Milligan.”

Woolard contributes to Milligan’s international programs through her sponsorship of an International Club, a foreign film series, international meals, international travel and semester abroad programs.

“Carolyn lives out the ideals of a servant leader,” Magness said.
