The Virginia State Crime Commission is set to vote on recommendations concerning "sexting," sex offender registry laws and other issues.
Some lawmakers question whether Virginia needs a law banning sexting - or the sending of explicit pictures through text messages. The issue came to light earlier this year when teens were charged with distributing child pornography after they sent semi-naked pictures to someone's cell phone.
Members on Tuesday also will discuss the federal government's strict new requirements for monitoring sex offenders. Virginia and other states could lose federal funding if they don't adopt the new rules by July.
The commission does not pass legislation, but its recommendations usually hold weight with lawmakers.
