Volunteers feed 278th a Christmas dinner before deployment

»  Comments | Post a Comment

550 East Tennessee National Guard soldiers will leave the Tri-Cities this weekend on a journey that will ultimately take them to Iraq. Those soldiers, from the 278th Armored Calvary Regiment, will spend a full year away from their families, including most of the holiday season. With that in mind, Jonesborough's Mid-City Fellowship Church along with its "Outside the Walls" ministry gave more than 130 area soldiers an early Christmas present Thursday night.

The volunteers invited those soldiers and all of their family members to a special Christmas dinner. The event, held at the Greeneville National Guard Armory, included a full holiday meal, presents for the kids, and even a visit from Santa Claus.
