Rogersville Man Claims To Be CIA Deputy Director To Avoid Speeding Ticket

A Rogersville man's attempt to avoid a $75 speeding ticket has landed him in Hawkins County Jail, and he may now face federal charges as well. 56 year old Scott Gibson was sent a citation for speeding, after Mount Carmel's speed cameras clocked him doing 66 mph in a 55 mph zone on June 29th. Gibson returned the citation to the Mount Carmel Police Department, with a handwritten note on the citation saying he was a deputy director of the Central Intelligence Agency, and that he did not have to follow the speed limit in Tennessee or anywhere else in the United States. MCPD contacted the CIA to verify everything and make them aware that they had somebody impersonating an officer. "We were certainly suspicious of his note," says Assistant Police Chief Mike Campbell. The CIA confirmed that Gibson was not a member of their agency, and Gibson was arrested and charged with Criminal Impersonation. Campbell says there is a very good chance Gibson could face federal charges now, and could face a much harsher sentence than if he had just paid the $75 ticket.
