Next time you call 911, if they’re slow to respond just assume it is for a reason- otherwise you could be the one who ends up in jail.

One Hawkins County man is in jail today after he allegedly lied to 911 dispatchers in order to get police on the scene sooner.

According to police reports, members of the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from William Hildebrand, 63, 720 Phillips Town Road, Bulls Gap which stated that he had come home and a window was broken out.

While the deputies were responding, Hildebrand called 911 dispatch again and told them that he had just shot someone in his house and “that there was no longer a need for officers to respond,” reports state.

When police and ambulance arrived at the scene, reports state the Hildebrand did not shoot anyone, and did not own a gun.

According to the sheriff’s office, Hildebrand told the officers that he didn’t think they were coming so he told 911 he shot someone so they would get there quickly to report the vandalism.

Hildebrand has been charged with filing a false report and is currently being held in the Hawkins County Jail.

Although Hildebrand’s window was broken, there was nothing stolen from the house.
