Rebecca Albright says she wasn't going to let her tragedy stop her from giving another family their miracle. In December of 2006, Albright's son Skyler was just three and half months old when he was critically injured in a car wreck. Skyler's brain stem was snapped in the accident, leading to him being brain dead.
But Skyler's heartbeat was as strong as ever says Rebecca. She says she knew there was a family somewhere praying for a miracle, and that miracle was Skyler. After Skyler passed away, Rebecca donated his organs to help other babies. His heart saved a 6 week old boy in Pennsylvania. His liver went to a 7 month old girl in Wisconsin.
Albright says it is how she finds peace with Skyler's untimely death, knowing that other children are alive today because they gave. "Knowing that somebody somewhere has a little girl that's playing in a sandbox," says Rebecca, "or a little boy that's rolling in the floor with a puppy, and that their fears have been taken away."
Rebecca hopes others see the benefits of organ donation. On average, 18 people die in the United States every day, waiting for an organ transplant. To become an organ donor, you can visit www.tndonorregistry.com
