The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a multiple shooting Wednesday morning that claimed one woman’s life at 540 Timber Ridge Road.
Update: 6:30
One person is dead and another in critical condition in what police are calling a domestic shooting. The shootings happened inside a home on Timber Ridge Road just outside the city limits of Bluff City in Sullivan County. Sullivan County Sheriff Wayne Anderson says deputies were called out to the home around 9:30 am Wednesday in reference to a shooting. Once inside, Anderson says investigators found 54 year-old Randy Graybeal clinging to life in the living room with a gunshot wound to the head. His wife, Angela Graybeal, was also in that room dead from fatal gunshot wounds, according to Anderson. However, he won't say where she was shot. According to Anderson, he still doesn't know who pulled the trigger at this time.
"There was blood on the porch and on the living room floor," Anderson said. "I'm not really sure what happened. I just know we have one person dead and the other shot in the head."
Investigators have recovered a weapon, but there are still many more questions. Sheriff Anderson won't say who called 911 to report the shooting, but he says a third person was at the scene before deputies arrived. Although they can't pinpoint a shooter, Anderson says his department is not actively looking for a suspect. He also says no one has been arrested. He reiterates this is a domestic shooting at this time.
"It looks like (the victims) had been there for a while, but I don't know, we've got a lot of people to talk to still," Anderson said.
Anderson says Randy Graybeal's survival and cooperation could be key to this case. The Johnson City Medical Center says Graybeal made it through surgery today and is in critical condition.
Update: 2:20 p.m.
The dead woman has been identified has Angela Dawn Graybeal, 38, of the Timber Ridge residence. Her husband, Randy Keith Graybeal, 54, was shot in the head. He has been undergoing surgery at Johnson City Medical Center, Sheriff Wayne Anderson said.
Update 12:05pm
News Channel 11 reporter Nate Morabito is at the scene of the shooting in Bluff City, where Sullivan County Sheriff Wayne Anderson says his investigators have recovered a weapon.
Anderson says that a man at the log-cabin home in the rural area was found inside the living room with a gunshot wound and is now in 'very critical condition' at Johnson City Medical Center, where officers are hoping to talk with him. The Sheriff noted that the man could be a witness to the shooting as well as a victim.
Officers on the scene found a woman dead inside the home, but Sheriff Anderson says they have not identified the man or woman. He will update reporters at a news conference scheduled this afternoon.
This case comes on the heels of another ongoing investigation in Bluff City - a case in which the main suspect was recently added to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's 10 Most Wanted List. At the time of the initial investigation September 8th, Bristol Herald Courier reporter Amy Hunter had noted that it had been at least 40 years since the Sullivan County town of Bluff City had seen a murder there. The latest on that case can be found here.
