Tusculum College Holds Health & Fitness Fall Fantasia

Tusculum College is tackling breast cancer awareness, fitness and health at the 8th Annual Health and Fitness Fall Fantasia. The festivities run from 8am to 5pm on the Greeneville campus.

Thursday Tusculum College is tackling breast cancer awareness, fitness and health with a day-long extravaganza. It’s part of the 8th Annual Health and Fitness Fall Fantasia. The festivities run from 8am to 5pm on the Greeneville campus.

Here are some of the services and activities available at the Fantasia:
* increased awareness of health resources in the community;
* multiple areas of physical and mental health education and screening;
* preventive care information;
* alternative health/medicine sources;
* special presentations by experts in various health-related fields;
* physical fitness demonstrations for all ages, including the afore-mentioned Tai Chi and Zumba;
* information on healthy food choices, cooking ideas and preparation techniques;
* recognition of a health professional in the community who has taken special care of Tusculum College students through the years.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
8 a.m. -12 p.m. Blood Typing - Medic Regional Blood Center
10:30 - 11 a.m. Acupuncture - Julie Mosely
11-11:30 a.m. Healthy Cooking (held outside) - Rural Resources
12-1 p.m. UT Breast Health Outreach Program with free lunch (Please call Diane at ext. 5499 to sign up)
1-1:30 p.m. Tai chi with Demo - Dr. Ron Williams
1:30-2p.m. Eating Disorders - Frontier Health
2-2:30 p.m. Healthy Cooking (held outside) - Rural Resources
2:30-3 p.m. Bench Press Competition - New Attitude
3-3:30 p.m. Acupuncture - Julie Moseley
3:30-4 p.m. YMCA on Yoga - Vickie Smith

Organizers say this year’s programming addresses health and wellness programs targeting students and senior citizens.

Every 12 minutes a woman looses her life to breast cancer in the United States.

University of Tennessee Breast Cancer Help Outreach workers will be on hand to discuss breast cancer issues impacting woman and men.

The national cancer institute estimates 182,460 women and 1990 men will develop breast cancer in 2008. This year 40,480 women and 450 men are expected to loose their lives to the disease.
