Question: When did you first hear the music in everything around you?
Dolly Parton: From the first time that I remember remembering anything, I was very involved in even just the sounds of the birds and the crickets and all that stuff. And I actually started making up songs when I was about 5 years old.
I made up a song about a little cob doll. And my mother was intrigued by the fact that I could rhyme it, and she wrote it down. I started playing guitar at 7. I started writing serious songs after that. So I don’t ever remember a time when music wasn’t part of my being.
‘ADVENTURE’ AREA DELAYED UNTIL 2010
Dolly Parton bragged about Dollywood’s proposed “Adventure Mountain” during a telephone interview earlier this year.
“This is like another big area with all sorts of things for kids, exploring the caves and all sorts of things like that,” Parton said.
Last week, however, Dollywood spokesman Pete Owens announced the arrival of “Adventure Mountain” would be delayed until 2010, due to rising construction costs and economic concerns.
High gas prices in 2008 hurt attendance at the park, Parton said. “We’re down a little bit in attendance. But, all in all, we’re doing so much better than most.”
