Members of the Virginia Air Pollution Board made a decision on Wednesday that will have a lasting affect on the Southwest Virginia. Dominion Virginia Power has already begun some site preparation for the 1.8 billion dollar plant in St. Paul, Virginia. Department of Environmental Quality representatives and Dominion Power officials went before the board to determine whether to issue Dominion the permits needed to open the plant. They talked about the coal that would be used to fuel plant and the impact it would have on the environment.
"The facility will be fitted with the latest in emission control technologies which will remove sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, particulates, mercury and the other pollutants," said Pam Faggart, Dominion Virginia Power.
On Tuesday people in favor of and against the plant voiced their opinions to the Virginia Air Pollution Board members.
Now that the needed permits have been granted to Dominion, construction is expected to begin immediately.
