A time honored Bristol tradition is back on track.
Beginning Wednesday evening, visitors to Steele Creek Park will one again be able to enjoy a ride in the park’s signature miniature train.
The red and blue C.P. Huntington locomotive was a fixture at the park from 1964 until 2001, when the dilapidated condition of the train and the tracks made it unusable.
The Bristol, Tenn. Parks and Recreation Department began a push to restore the train and the track back to a usable condition last year, according to Terry Napier, the director of Parks and Recreation in Bristol, Tenn.
Workers in the department fully restored the park’s original locomotive and leveled the tracks that loop through the park.
Free rides are available on the spruced up locomotive beginning Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. and continuing through Thursday.
In the future, a ride on the train will cost $1.
