That's the opinion of Judge Lynn Brown today during Willis' brief appearance in court.
As we told you Monday, the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals ordered a stay of trial for the first-degree murder case, which was set to begin next week.
The appeals court will consider Willis' claim that he is unfairly being forced to represent himself.
Today, Judge Brown summed up his thoughts.
Brown said, "It's been a nightmare. I don't know how anyone could understand this trial has been delayed since 2002."
Also today, Judge Brown stripped Willis of all of his special privileges to prepare his case, pending the appeals court's decision.
If convicted of killing teenagers Adam Chrismer and Samantha Leming in Johnson City in October 2002, Willis could be sentenced to death.
