Piece Had a 'Pro-Military Slant'

»  Comments | Post a Comment

First of all, I’d like to make it perfectly clear – I have the utmost admiration and respect for our armed forces, both domestic and those in foreign deployment.

“The War They Still Fight” (published in Parade magazine, June 8) by Tim O’Brien was nice. A little too nice? After reading his article, it seemed to have a “pro-military” slant.

The soldiers and their stories/photos certainly pulled at my old heartstrings. But, the “whole package” was too clean; aka, no regrets and no ill feelings. “I’d do it all again” mentality.

Sorry, I don’t buy it!

I’m sure numerous servicemen and women could tell a totally different tale. Unimaginable injuries, etc. A long list!

Is “The War They Still Fight” government propaganda? Maybe? Of course, the present-day White House would disavow such an outlandish suggestion!
Iraq needs to step up to the plate and govern itself.

America needs to quit being an international babysitter.
