Employment Commission Extends Hours

In a sign of the tough economic times, the place where Virginians file their unemployment claims is extending its Saturday hours.

The Virginia Employment Commission said Monday it will continue to operate its customer contact center on Saturday mornings, citing
current and anticipated customer demand.

The center opened in November in what was expected to be a temporary development.

The center can be used by Virginia residents to file for extend unemployment benefits. The agency prefers that those claims are
done online.

Because of the holidays, the customer contact center will be closed during the Christmas and New Year's weekends.
