Steppin’ out on State Street or thereabouts this New Year’s Eve?
Expect some company. Lots of company.
“I think it’ll be bustling,” said Dave Manning, owner and manager of State Street nightspot O’Mainnin’s.
O’Mainnin’s numbers among a growing list of venues that will host celebrations in downtown Bristol this New Year’s Eve. There’s also Stateline Bar and Grill, Machiavelli’s, and recently opened 620 State and the Acoustic Ale House.
Each offers their own stamp on New Year’s Eve.
“I have one thing that no one else is offering,” said Patrick Manning, a general manager of Acoustic Ale House, which opened Dec. 27. “No one else in Bristol has 200 beers from 22 countries.”
Each of those venues will feature live music on New Year’s Eve. For instance, The Broadcast and Hundred Acres will perform at Machiavelli’s. Wise Old River will cross over into the new year at Acoustic Ale House. Rob Russell and the Sore Losers will appear at 620 State.
“We’ll have a New Year’s Eve bash with the Sound Drivers,” said Dave Manning of O’Mainnin’s. “They’re a predominantly 80s pop covers band.”
The proliferation of performances means State Street sure won’t be as darkened as in New Year’s Eves past.
“In the past, most of the action was at each end of the road,” Dave Manning said. “But with 620, it seems like all of State Street will be alive on New Year’s.”
While the Mannings want patrons to enjoy themselves, they also urge everyone to stay safe.
“We are prepared to offer support and services that we legally can,” Patrick Manning said.
Dave Manning said his business will provide complimentary vouchers for cab rides.
“We have, with Holston Distributing, $10 vouchers for cab rides home,” he said. “They’re offered to everyone who comes in to O’Mainnin’s. We’re blanketing everyone.”
Every person who enters O’Mainnin’s on New Year’s Eve will receive one voucher that can be used toward the purchase of a cab ride home.
“New Year’s Eve is like amateur night,” Dave Manning said. “It’s people who don’t normally go out and sometimes they don’t make the right decisions. That $10 voucher will get most everybody within a three to five mile radius, home.”
