On Saturday, August 20 at 6pm Knoxville Opera will be performing a free concert at the First Baptist Church on West Washington Street in Rogersville, Tenn. Generously sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Larry Schiffer of Kyles Ford, the performance will feature selections from popular and rarely performed operas including Romeo and Juliette, La Traviata, West Side Story, Otello, Cavalleria Rusticana, Manon, and Beatrice di Tenda.
The three soloists for this concert are soprano Maria Natale, mezzosoprano Martha Prewitt, and tenor Boris Van Druff. The performance will be under the direction of Brian Salesky, Executive Director and Conductor of Knoxville Opera and pianist for the Rogersville concert.
All three soloists are pursuing a Master’s degree in vocal performance at the University of Tennessee. Maria Natale has appeared in solo roles with Knoxville Opera, the Rome Festival, the UT Opera Theatre and on RAI Television in Rome, Italy. She received her undergraduate degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Martha Prewitt has been seen in solo roles with Knoxville Opera and the UT Opera Theatre. Boris Van Druff will be making his Knoxville Opera debut in October as Gastone in La Traviata.
