RICHLANDS, Va. – Kick off the fall season with the Richlands Fall Festival on Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in downtown Richlands.
Various businesses throughout town will offer refreshments, store sales/discounts, games and giveaways. Arts, crafts, bake goods and more will be available. Bus rides will be offered through decorated Richlands for 25 cents per ride.
Numerous children’s activities will be free thanks to the town of Richlands. Outdoor entertainment runs all day featuring Shelby Jewell and the Bluegrass Kinsmen, Greg Horn debuting his new CD and gospel group Country Praise.
“One Hometown,” the new single by Horn, a local singer/songwriter, pays tribute to the lives and legacy of the people of Richlands. Written as a theme song for the promotional efforts of Downtown Richlands, Inc., a Richlands revitalization and development group, this country rock track chronicles the town’s history.
Downtown Richlands, Inc. will have CD copies of “One Hometown” available for $5 as a fundraiser during the festival, and Horn will be available for autographs after the performance. The CD features the country rock track, along with an acoustic version of the song.
The Richlands Outdoor Challenge 5K Road Race and Fun Walk is an added attraction for all ages. The “ROC” hopes to promote a healthy lifestyle in Southwest Virginia. All proceeds benefit the Recovery Outreach Center, a rehabilitation home for people recovering from drug addictions. All participants will receive a Brooks Running technical fiber long-sleeve shirt and plenty of exercise.
This run starts at the Richlands Police Department and tracks its way through town ending up again at the Richlands Police Department. Entry fee is $15 for both runners and walkers.
