Laying in bed, after recovering from a car wreck, Mike Donehey figured he wouldn’t be playing sports much anymore.
So, about a dozen years ago, he picked up a guitar.
And he’s made music ever since.
Donehey now plays rhythm guitar and sings for Tenth Avenue North, a Christian rock act that is making a stop on Nov. 22 at Johnson City’s Freedom Hall Civic Center.
Recently taking time to chat while at home in Nashville, Tenn., Donehey talked about the four-man band’s big gig in Atlanta a few days earlier - and how they looked forward to shows in Louisiana.
Donehey, 29, grew up at Fredericksburg, Va., and had once contemplated studying drama at James Madison University in Harrisonburg.
Then a friend talked him into going to Palm Beach Atlantic University at West Palm Beach, Fla., and that’s where Donehey met the guys who formed Tenth Avenue North and named the band for a street where the musicians once lived.
Today, Donehey is married and the father of a newborn baby girl, Eisley.
And he’s enjoying success with Tenth Avenue North’s singles, including “Love Is Here,” “By Your side” and “Hold My Heart.”
Come to a show, he said, and expect a good time.
“You can experience rock’n’roll, probably some funny anecdotes, maybe some stories,” Donehey said. “And you’ll definitely have an encounter with the truth, is what we hope.”
