ROGERSVILLE, Tenn. – The Rogersville Arts Council is sponsoring the 10th annual Shakespeare and Friends Celtic Renaissance Faire on June 6-7 in Crockett Spring Park in Rogersville.
It is the late 1500s, and Queen Elizabeth I is in Scotland visiting with King James. The festival is held to celebrate the queen’s visit to our tiny Scottish hamlet.
Returning this year with new shows are Johnny Phoenix, the fire manipulator; The Nickel Shakespeare Girls; Lady Ettie; Dragon Scales and Fairy Tales; Menagerie and those infamous “Trolls.” The “Mac Alum” will join in with Celtic music and mirth. The queen requests the public’s presence in the arena for a full armored joust by the Lords of Chivalry and at “court” twice daily.
Children can learn the art of painting, sword crafting, heraldry and creating accessories for their wardrobes. They can also join the pirates for a boat race down Crockett Creek, test their skills in the game yard or learn how to dance and dress like a fairy. The Dragon Egg Hunt will be held twice daily.
In the marketplace, guests will find vendors of clothing, jewelry, herbs and soaps, pottery, games, armor and everyday necessities. Watch as demonstrators spin yarn, carve spoons, make brooms, tan hides and create iconography.
