JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Tai Anderson let out a sigh and laughed.
Thinking about it, he said, he has now spent half his life playing Christian rock music with his band, Third Day.
Now, on Nov. 13, the band is making an appearance at Johnson City’s Freedom Hall.
“We are not resting on our laurels,” bass player Anderson said during a recent telephone interview.
“We’re out there every day on tour, working on a new set list, working on arrangements,” Anderson added. “And we have planned spontaneity in our set. We don’t want to just recycle the same show for 45 cities."
‘A NEW BEGINNING’
Known for songs like “Call My Name” and “Cry Out to Jesus,” Third Day recently spent a few weeks in Charlottesville, Va., laying down the tracks for what became the band’s newest album, “Revelation.”
“In between our last studio record and this record, we put out a greatest hits record,” Anderson said. “That kind of signaled the end of something. This was the end of a chapter, end of a career or end of something.”
But no way – this four-man band wasn’t quitting. No way, indeed.
They simply signed a new record deal and began working again.
“We decided to make it a new beginning,” Anderson said. “The band has had some revelation, some divine inspiration.”
What kind of inspiration?
Well, Anderson said, “Even after 16 years, it’s almost as if we have less figured out than when we started.”
‘ATTEMPT AT HUMILITY’
Anderson paused while trying to describe “Revelation.”
“The record is kind of an attempt at humility,” he said. “We still need guidance. That’s what the record is. You know, alright, God – I need help.”
Anderson’s two favorite songs on the release are “Revelation” and “Other Side.”
The song “Revelation,” he said, was a last-minute addition to the album.
“It’s a good song,” Anderson said. “We were pretty much already done with the record, and it became the centerpiece of the whole project.”
