TOMMY
Not easy. Reviving and interpreting classics bears risk aplenty.
Leave it to the Barter Theatre to boldly offer “The Who’s Tommy.” Scheduled to run from June 25 through Aug. 10 at Barter’s Stage II in Abingdon, the legendary rock opera features songs made famous by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members The Who.
Directed by Richard Rose, the show centers around Tommy Walker. Shunned by society after suffering a trauma that renders him deaf, blind and mute, the youngster embraces his talent for pinball.
Fueled by rock classics such as “Pinball Wizard,” “Tommy” should appeal to theatergoers with rock in the blood and drama in their soul.
