What wonderful news for Virginia Intermont College! As reported in the April 8 newspaper, an alumna from the college’s photography program has been awarded no less an honor than the Pulitzer Prize. Preston Gannaway’s distinguished work in the field of photojournalism, along with receiving such a prestigious award, says much about the quality of the curriculum at VI.
Recently, there has been much cause for happiness on Moore Street and for Cobras everywhere. The nationally recognized equestrian team continues to impress. Local good Samaritan Bill Gatton set a fantastic example by way of his generous gift. And now an Intermont graduate wins a Pulitzer.
A word of advice to high school seniors considering post-secondary education: Apply to Virginia Intermont. Schedule a tour of the campus. Meet with the admissions staff and some faculty members in your prospective major.
Keep in mind that VI is small and that you will be given lots of personalized attention in the classroom. Also, keep in mind that while there really is no bad program at Intermont, there are some that especially shine, namely equine studies, the fine arts (including photography), paralegal studies and social work.
I offer my congratulations to both Gannaway and Virginia Intermont. Keep shining, Cobras.
