In an effort to let everyone know they're hiring and competitive, Jewell Smokeless Coal held a press conference Tuesday to give out big bonus checks to longtime employees.
They received $250 per year of service, and some of the recipients have worked more than 40 years for the company.
The company also recognized the safety record of a local mine and a the first woman to receive a certification as an underground electrician in Virginia.
