Faster broadband speeds, high-definition television, digital video recording (DVR) and telephone services are on their way to Johnson County, according to Charter, which will begin work on a major upgrade of its network within Mountain City in April.
According to a press release issued today, the company is investing approximately $2 million dollars in this network upgrade. It will enable the availability of enhanced services from Charter to residential and business customers in the Mountain City, Butler, Laurel Bloomery, Crackers Neck, and Neva communities.
The project will upgrade Charter’s current network, which passes more than 5,100 homes in Johnson County, from a coax system to a hybrid fiber coax system. More than 60 miles of fiber will be deployed during the upgrade.
The network upgrades will begin in April and continue over a four-month period.
New products and services will be launched in the area later in the year as network upgrades are completed.
The company says their investment in Johnson County will bring digital-quality pictures, improved sound, more high-definition programming and DVR capabilities. It will also increase the speed and availability of high-speed internet connections.
The launch of the service upgrade will be recognized with a ceremony on Friday, April 1 at 10am at Mountain City City Hall, 210 S. Church Street, Mountain City, TN. Local government officials and community leaders will be in attendance.
