Governor Phil Bredesen, D-Tenn., proposed deep cuts in the state's spending plan for fiscal year 2008-2009 during a speech in Nashville Monday night.
These are some highlights of his proposal:
1. Cutting funding for TennCare, primary education, and higher education
2. Eliminating 2,000 state employees
3. Dropping a planned two-percent pay raise
4. Setting aside $100 million for unspecified* economic development projects (*Tennessee is one of three states being considered for a new Volkswagon plant)
