KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The old White Lily flour mill in downtown Knoxville is expected to close this spring.
A spokesman for local Teamsters 519 says the union was notified late Friday of the impending closure and layoff of the mill's 72 remaining employees.
About half the workers will laid off May 1, and the rest on June 30.
The union says many workers will look for new jobs, but several will simply retire.
The White Lily mill has been a downtown Knoxville landmark for 125 years through a succession of eight owners.
